Carte Blanche brought illustration and perfumery together in a multisensory installation in Barcelona. Our work combined set design with postcards and posters, creating a gallery-inspired environment that invited visitors to explore connections between visual art and scent.

The project

Developed for Firmenich, the installation presented works by a selection of illustrators and artists alongside an exploration of fragrance. The concept gave creativity an open setting, encouraging associations between images, emotions and olfactory impressions.

Our role was to shape the exhibition environment and its supporting graphic materials, bringing the different creative contributions into a coherent visitor experience.

The design approach

A restrained, gallery-like setting placed the artwork at the centre of the installation. The scenic design provided a shared backdrop for the illustrations, allowing their individual styles and ideas to remain distinct.

Postcards and posters extended the visual content across the exhibition. Together with the spatial arrangement, these materials connected the artists’ work with the sensory narrative developed around perfumery.

The approach balanced visual clarity with opportunities for interpretation, giving visitors room to form their own associations between what they saw and what they smelled.

The visitor experience

Carte Blanche invited clients and creative teams to discover how an image might suggest a fragrance, or how a scent could change the reading of an artwork. These encounters created opportunities for conversation and fresh perspectives on the creative process.

The installation offered a setting for inspiration, bringing graphic artists, illustrators and perfumers into dialogue through a shared sensory experience.
