AIRUM airport hospitality guest room with bed, workspace and open wardrobe by Indy Blue Studio

Developed for a tender, the Airum proposal brings hotel accommodation, business facilities and hospitality into one coordinated concept. Indy Blue Studio created the interior design, naming and brand identity, connecting the character of the spaces with their signage, uniforms, stationery and other graphic applications.

The project

The proposal covered 2,533 m² within Josep Tarradellas Barcelona–El Prat Airport. The programme included a 240 m² multipurpose room with dividing partitions, five meeting rooms, offices, guest rooms including a suite, a restaurant and a fitness area with changing rooms and showers.

The brief required an environment that could accommodate work, rest and social activity within the airport. Our approach brought these functions together through a consistent design language, while giving each area the atmosphere and practical features suited to its use.

The design approach

Light colours, wood, glass and textiles establish a calm, welcoming palette. References to Barcelona appear through patterned flooring and white ceramic tiles, giving the proposal a connection to the city.

Furniture introduces colour and helps define the different settings. Acoustic comfort, clear circulation and a restrained arrangement of materials support a sense of order throughout the interior. Dividing panels provide separation between activities while preserving openness and visual connections.

Much of the proposed furniture was sourced from Spanish manufacturers, supporting closer production and supply relationships. Lighting was selected to complement the furniture and finishes, with an emphasis on LED technology and energy efficiency.

The brand identity

The name Airum evokes air, connecting the identity to its airport setting. A bold sans-serif wordmark is paired with a palette of greys and soft olive greens drawn from the interior concept.

The graphic identity extends across signage, stationery and uniforms, carrying the same colours and visual character through the guest experience. Developing the brand and interior together allowed each to inform the other, creating continuity between the physical spaces and their communication.

The guest experience

Airum was conceived for travellers with different priorities: somewhere to meet, prepare for work, enjoy a meal or rest before continuing their journey.

The proposal balances these needs within a shared hospitality environment, combining flexible facilities with a calm atmosphere and a recognisable identity rooted in Barcelona.
